What a blocked gutter costs you
Water that cannot leave the roof edge finds another route. It backs up under the first course of roofing. It runs behind the fascia and soaks the soffit. In a heavy Valley storm it comes over the front edge in a sheet and lands against your foundation. The repair bill covers lumber, paint, drywall and sometimes the roof edge, when drainage problems are left unresolved.
It does not take much. A packed corner. A downspout outlet plugged with compacted material. A run that has sagged enough to hold standing water. Standing water in a gutter breeds mosquitoes through a Valley summer, and the weight pulls the hangers out of the fascia. That is how a sagging run becomes a detached one.

Why solar roofs fill their gutters faster
If birds are nesting under your array, your gutters are downstream of it. Nest material, feathers, droppings and everything the birds drag up there washes to the roof edge and stops at the first restriction. An inspection can help distinguish nesting material from ordinary leaf and roof debris.
Clearing the gutter in that situation is maintenance, not a fix. Do it, because the drainage has to work. If birds are contributing debris, consider addressing the array access as well. When CA Solar Wash clears a gutter and the contents point upward, the team shows you, and you decide whether to deal with the cause now or later.
What the visit covers
Scroll sideways to see all columns.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Clear | Debris removed by hand from the full gutter run and bagged for removal. |
| Downspouts | Each outlet and downspout cleared and flow-tested with water. |
| Check | Hangers, seams and fall inspected. Sagging runs, splits and leaking joints noted and photographed. |
| Tidy | Ground below left clear of what came out of the gutter. That is the Clean-Up Guarantee. |
| Report | Photos of the cleared runs and of anything that needs attention beyond cleaning. |

What to send for a quote
Send these details and CA Solar Wash quotes from your photos without a site visit.
- The property address and the number of stories.
- A photo of each elevation, or the approximate linear feet of gutter.
- Whether gutter guards are fitted, and a photo of them if so.
- Whether there is solar on the roof and whether you have seen or heard birds.
- Any overflow, leak or sagging section you already know about.
- The location of the outdoor water connection and any access constraints. Arrange gate codes directly after booking.
When to clean, and when to stop cleaning
Clear gutters after the fall leaf drop and before the winter rain arrives. That is the blockage that causes the damage. Add a second clear in late spring on properties under trees, on roofs with active birds, or where field dust and blossom pack in through the dry months.
If you are booking more often than that, something above the gutter is producing the debris. Gutter guards cut the frequency. Mesh on the solar array perimeter stops the nest material at the source. CA Solar Wash quotes cleaning, guards and bird proofing as separate lines so you see the whole number and pick what fixes the problem.
A flowing downspout is not a buried-drain inspection
Tell CA Solar Wash if a downspout enters an underground pipe, rain barrel or drainage system. A flow check at the accessible outlet cannot establish the condition of buried pipework or show where all the water goes.
If water still overflows after the visible debris is removed, the gutter slope, outlet capacity, seams or downstream drainage may need investigation. Ask for photographs of the affected run and a clear note about what was and was not checked.
