Matching the method to the surface
Pressure washing is one tool asked to do several different jobs. A concrete driveway with ground-in dirt and tire marks wants real pressure and a surface cleaner to keep the pass even. Stucco, painted siding, older wood fencing and soft masonry want the opposite: low pressure, dwell time and a rinse. Driveway settings on stucco strip the finish, and it does not grow back.
The failure everyone recognizes is the stripe: wand-shaped light and dark banding left when the pressure is high and the pass uneven. On concrete it can be uneven cleaning or physical damage, which require different responses. On a painted or stuccoed wall it is worse, because water has been driven into a surface built to shed it. CA Solar Wash spends longer at lower pressure rather than hand back a driveway with a signature on it.

House washing
House washing is a soft wash. Stucco, painted siding, trim, eaves and fascia get a low-pressure application, dwell time and a purified-water rinse that takes off the dust, cobwebs, pollen and organic growth without forcing water behind the siding or into the wall. Loose paint, damaged seals and fragile finishes need to be identified before washing.
Order matters. The roof and gutters go first if they are on the ticket, then the house, then the concrete, then the windows. Each step sends dirt downhill onto the next, so the sequence is fixed and the windows come last. Book the whole exterior in one visit and the price reflects one trip, not four.
Surfaces CA Solar Wash gets asked about most
Say which of these you have and the approximate area, and the quote comes from photographs.
- Concrete driveways, walkways, patios and pool surrounds, including oil and tire marking.
- Pavers and stamped concrete, where the sealer and the joints decide the method.
- Block wall, brick and boundary walls carrying field dust and organic growth.
- Stucco and painted siding, soft washed rather than pressure washed.
- Wood and vinyl fencing, cleaned at a pressure the material survives.
- Solar carports, patio covers and awnings, where the structure also carries panels.

What a wash removes and what it does not
Scroll sideways to see all columns.
| Mark | On the surface or in it | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Dust, pollen, cobwebs, general grime | On the surface. | Usually improves with suitable cleaning; pre-existing surface damage remains. |
| Organic growth and dark streaking | On the surface. | Treatment depends on the surface and stain; remaining marks are documented. |
| Fresh oil or tire marking | Mostly on the surface. | Lifts well. Some shadow can remain on porous concrete. |
| Old oil soaked into concrete | In the slab. | Improves. Does not fully erase without a separate treatment. |
| Rust bleed from a planter or fixing | In the slab. | Needs a specific treatment beyond washing, quoted as its own line. |
| Paint spills and tannin staining | In the slab. | Improves. CA Solar Wash tells you which category yours is in before you book. |
Water, runoff and your property
Wash water carries whatever it just removed. Where it goes matters, particularly when a driveway drains to the street and from there to a storm drain. Outdoor wash water can carry pollutants into storm drains; the discharge route needs to be addressed before work. CA Solar Wash plans the route, protects planting, and keeps the chemistry to the minimum the surface needs.
Before the day, say where the outdoor faucet is and what on the property must stay dry or be moved: vehicles, outdoor furniture, an electrical outlet, a pet door, a neighbor's shared fence. Send photos of each area with your request and the approximate square footage. Most exterior jobs get quoted without a site visit.
Concrete cleaning: set the finish before the pressure
Tell CA Solar Wash whether concrete is new, sealed, stamped, painted or previously etched. For pavers, identify loose joints, sinking areas and the type of joint fill if known. Surface cleaning does not replace re-sanding, sealing or repair.
Move vehicles and movable furniture, close windows and point out outlets or damaged seals before the visit. Oil, rust, paint and irrigation stains need separate expectations: a test area can help assess improvement, but a photograph cannot guarantee complete removal.
