Pigeons under solar panels are a roof problem
The space between your panels and your roof is shade, shelter and warmth. Pigeons move in, nest, breed and come back every season. Droppings build up on the tile or shingle beneath the array, stain the roof, block the drainage paths and wash into your gutters with the first rain. Nesting material packs against wiring and under the module edges. Debris that should have blown off the roof stays put.
None of it clears itself. Washing the glass while the nest stays underneath solves nothing, and the birds are back on the array the same afternoon. Accumulated material needs a suitable handling plan. Check nest activity first, agree the cleanup scope, and address entry points without trapping birds.

How CA Solar Wash bird-proofs a home array
Each stage follows the agreed scope and site-access requirements. Nothing is drilled into your roof.
- Full inspection under and around the array, photographed before anything is touched.
- Nests, droppings, feathers and debris removed from under the modules and off the roof surface.
- Accessible roof areas in the agreed scope cleaned, with any inaccessible sections documented.
- Galvanized steel mesh fitted around the full perimeter of the array with no roof penetration. That is the No-Roof-Penetration Guarantee.
- Bird spikes on ledges and edges where pigeons perch, when the site calls for them.
- Before-and-after photographs of the same sections, sent to you after the visit.
Then the glass gets cleaned properly
Valley dust, almond and grass pollen, hard-water spotting and bird droppings sit between the sun and your cells. CA Solar Wash cleans the module glass with soft brushes and deionized water and rinses with purified water so the surface dries without new mineral spots. No pressure washer, no abrasive pads, no household chemicals on the glass. Soiling can reduce available light; the production effect depends on the system and the obstruction.
Uneven soiling and an even film can affect a system differently. That is why the photos matter. You see which sections were blocked and set your own cleaning interval from your own inverter data instead of a sales number.

Your roof sets the method
Two homes with the same panel count can be very different jobs. Send a photo from the street and the roof material and CA Solar Wash plans the access before the team arrives.

| Roof | How CA Solar Wash works it | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Composition shingle | Walked where the pitch allows. Straightforward access to the array and the perimeter. | Ground-level photo, number of stories, rough panel count. |
| Tile | Worked from ladders and poles where the tile will not take foot traffic. Mesh still goes on with no roof penetration. | Tile type and age, photo of the array from the street. |
| Metal | Slick and unforgiving. Access planned around the seams and the pitch. | Photo showing the roof profile and the array edges. |
| Ground mount | Simplest access. Cleaned and inspected underneath from the ground. | Mount height and whether a vehicle can reach the row. |
What a Valley homeowner actually needs
The plan is simpler than you expect.
- Bird proofing where appropriate, with checks after later roof or solar work.
- A cleaning decision based on visible conditions and the module instructions.
- Another condition check after unusually dusty work nearby, rather than an automatic extra clean.
- Gutters cleared before the winter rain, and gutter guards if birds or leaves keep filling them.
- Photographs on every visit, so you track the trend instead of taking anyone's word for it.
- A straight answer when the array does not need doing yet.
Leased solar, roof warranties and household access
If the panels are leased or covered by a maintenance agreement, confirm who authorizes cleaning and any mesh attachment. Have the panel model and installer restrictions available; ownership and warranty documents can change what work is appropriate.
Arrange gates, water access, pets and parking directly after booking. Mention any pending reroofing, window work or painting so the sequence makes sense. Ask for separate prices if you are choosing between essential bird cleanup and other exterior improvements.
